Jean-Jacques Mailliet is a violinist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer based in Paris and active across many musical genres, who collaborated with artists like Dobet Gnahoré or Kyle Eastwood.

Born in 1998 in Luxembourg, he made his first steps into music at the age of 3 years starting playing the violin and showing great interest in musical expression. In contrast to the usual background of a violinist, he had the chance to learn the instrument in a completely different, mainly folk and improvisation based, environment. This would lay the foundation of the relationship to his instrument and of his vision about music, which would turn out to become his passion more and more.
Born in 1998 in Luxembourg, he made his first steps into music at the age of 3 years starting playing the violin and showing great interest in musical expression. In contrast to the usual background of a violinist, he had the chance to learn the instrument in a completely different, mainly folk and improvisation based, environment. This would lay the foundation of the relationship to his instrument and of his vision about music, which would turn out to become his passion more and more.
Having this strong connection to music from early on, it is not surprising that he soon decided to make this a living. Therefor he entered the Conservatory of Luxembourg in 2009 for classical violin, with former OPL’s Konzertmeister Philippe Koch, and two years later entered its jazz department, led by the renowned teachers David Laborier and Gast Waltzing. There he was given the opportunity to develop various skills in instrumental performance, music history & analyses and starting writing for small and large ensembles.
At the age of 13 years he had the honour to play as a soloist with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra in Luxembourg city – an event that left an important mark on him and encouraged him to share his passion on stage.
Together with the Luxembourg National Jazz Orchestra and producer Gast Waltzing, he released his first solo album Jean-Jacques Mailliet feat. ONJL in 2015, with all songs being own compositions. He would play several concerts with this ensemble, including 2016 in Helsinki, representing for the state visit of HRH Grand-Duke of Luxembourg in Finland.
Going through the difficulties of the following 3 years, he started in 2023 together with singer Lola Payen, their new Electronic Pop-Art duo called HUMANOÏD, celebrating & at the same time criticizing the relationship we have nowadays with technologies. – for more info click here –
Having always had a fable for artificial electronic technologies on the one hand, as well as for the beauty of nature itself on the other, he was looking for a way to express his thoughts about the relation of complexity and simplicity of both worlds. He would make his first steps with his live-project VIOTEK, mixing traditional acoustic elements into purely electronic music in different formations/instrumentations.
Along various Internships at the Luxembourg Philharmonie, through grammy winner Gast Waltzing, he was able to meet artists like Kurt Elling, Gregory Porter or Lionel Loueke, for who he would work as an assistant during their concerts with the orchestra. This was the beginning of revealing process of slowly integrating into the world of symphonic music and gaining experience.
During the series of Post-Classics symphonic concerts 2021, 2022 & 2023, he could work as a composer, arranger and soloist with the OPL and various known Luxembourgish artists. -Click here for video-

Since 2019 he is studying at the Jazz and Improvised Music department of the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP) in the classes of François Théberge, Médéric Collignon et Riccardo Del Fra. Benefiting from an excellent education and multiple wide-spreading contacts, he enjoys being based in the multicultural & artistic metropolis.
